'Uyir' is director Saminathan's debut directorial venture. He has managed to get good performances from the team selected. The story is about a young widow who tries to marry her brother-in-law. The director partly succeeds in presenting a movie that is far better than than routine gangster movies.
Sundar (Srikanth) returns after his studies to Ooty to stay with his brother's family. His brother's wife Arundhati (Sangeetha) shows boundless affection on him. Sundar falls in love with Anandi (Samvrutha), who lives in the neighbourhood. His brother commits suicide. Then onwards, Sundar takes the family's responsibilities on his head. Slowly, Arundathi develops a feeling for Sundar. Even she comes to know about Sundar's affair with Anandi. Sundar plans to put an end to her advances. And how he overcomes the troubles and finally marries Anandi, forms the rest of the story.
Performance:
Srikanth did his role excellently. He has given a matured performance. He has trimmed himself to suit his body language and dialogues. Sangeetha did her best in the movie. The story is mainly based on her character. Samvritha has added glamour to the movie. Joshua Sridhar's music is good. Cinematography is fascinating. The other technical aspects are okay.
