'Uliyin Osai' is directed by Ilavenil. The director has come out with a bold backdrop which
has never been touched and though the narration lacked on key areas, the presentation was very
mature. The director is commoposed it is an interesting tale of history and human
emotions.
An interesting tale of history and human emotions, it is set on the backdrop of the year 1005
AD when the Tamil Kings were at the peak of their power. To quench their penchant for arts,
the ruling king Raja Raja Chozhan (Sarath Babu) and his son Rajendra Chozhan (Vijay) decide
upon creating some of the finest temples in Thanjavur and in this process they look at getting
some of the finest sculptures of beautiful women in the temple.
The king sends out his people in search of the right woman and in this process he assigns the
task to Iniyan (Vineeth) who hails from Kancheepuram. Iniyan joins the quest and finally comes
across a poor girl Samundi (Keerthi Chawla) and he deems her the right fit to pose as a dancer
for his carvings. The sculpting begins and Iniyan is floored by the charm and beauty of
Samundi and as expected he falls in love with her. But as soon as he confesses his feelings
for her, a big shock hits him as Samundi confesses that she happens to be the wife of Rajendra
Chozhan. How did this happen? Does Iniyan continue with his work? what happens hereafter is to
be seen on the screen.
Performances:
The spine of the movie happens to be some classic tunes and crisp editing. The script was
faltering at few places and the screenplay looked amateurish but then the art department and
costumes carried out their jobs effectively. Cinematography was good. Vineeth has come across
with a good performance and it is nice to see him doing a lengthy role after a long time, he
suits the periodic films. Keerthi Chawla and Akshaya provided enough sensuality and tradition
which filled the glamour quotient while 'Thalaivaasal' Vijay came in with an impressive
negative role. Sarath Babu looked royal and the real show stealers were Manorama and Kovai
Sarala who came up with an exceptional performance. Kanja Karuppu managed few laughs. The
others were okay.
