'Rendu' is directed by Sundar C. He has selected an interesting story and an experienced cast for the plot. This is his second film with Madhavan. Maddy's dual role stands as a special attraction for the movie. The director needs to be applauded for his attempt.
Sakthi (Madhavan) comes to Chennai in search of a job and stays with his uncle Karikalan (Vadivelu). He meets Valli (Reema Sen)
who earns her livelihood by doing a few tricks in the exhibition. After some misunderstanding, they develop love for each other.
Meanwhile, a series of murders occurs in the State and the investigating officer (Bhagya Raj) decides to nab the killer. Eventually,
Sakthi is held responsible for the deaths and is taken to prison. Then enters Kannan (Madhavan) claiming that he is the original killer
and helps Sakthi escape from prison. Kannan narrates his story to Sakthi in a flashback.
Kannan and his family members lived in Kumbakonam. His father was a renowned caterer. During a wedding Kannan comes across
Jyothi (Anushka) and falls in love instantly. Meanwhile, a rich NRI with the connivance of the local bigwigs decide to usurp farming
lands and set up factories in Kumbakonam. The bride's father stoutly resists the attempt. Enraged, the NRI kills everyone in the
marriage hall by setting it on fire. Kannan escapes the mishap and vows to teach the evil men a lesson. And how Kannan joined by
Sakthi, encounters the rich industrialist, forms the rest of the story.
Performance:
Madhavan did well in both the roles. His sequences with Vadivelu are good. Reema Sen did her role well. Her emotional sequences
with Madhavan are impressive. Anushka, being a debutant, played her role brilliantly. The chemistry between Madhavan and Anushka
is well etched. Bhagya Raj excelled as an Investigating officer. The others did upto the content. Music by Imman is pleasant. Story
and direction are good. Cinematography is fine. Production values are high.
