Cheran as a director has a reputation for directing cultural films. His movies are very realistic and convey some message to the society. In his earlier movie 'Autograph' he dealt with the picturisation of various stages of love in a young man's life. In 'Maya Kannadi' he deals with life in the city.
During the morning hours at Anna Salai in Chennai there'll be scores of people hurrying on their way to work. Kumar (Cheran) is one such person who comes from Thiruvannamalai to Chennai with lots of dreams and hopes about the future. He joins in a gent's beauty parlour. Everyday he comes across the beautiful life of the city. Thereby he falls into dreams, desires and starts building castles in the air. Maheshwari (Navya Nair) also works in a beauty parlour and drives a scooty wearing driving gloves and thinks herself as a great queen riding a chariot. She too lives totally engrossed in her dreams. The story revolves around these two people.
'Maya Kannadi', produced by Senthil Chinnasami, has its music rendered by Ilayaraja. The audio is expected to release soon and the movie is slated for release in July.
