Synopsis :
Rajnikanth’s “Chandramukhi” is the most eagerly awaited film of 2005 in Tamil. It is a sort of comeback vehicle for the superstar, as his last film “Baba” was a flop. A lot is riding on “Chandramukhi” which is said to be a remake of “Aapthamitra” from Kannada, which itself was inspired from Fazil’s “Manichitrathazhu” from Malayalam.
Rajni at 55 is playing it safe by not changing his get-up or style too much. In fact he had done plastic surgery and removed his cigarette stains on his lips. For the first time the superstar had a Chennai based fashion designer to do his clothes in the film.
Nayantara, the Malayalee girl who has made a sensational debut in Tamil with “Ayyaa” is Rajni’s heroine in “Chandramukhi”. This 20-something girl has a matured face and is very excited about being paired with Rajni. Nayantara has already been paired with superstars in Malayalam and she is all set to make it big in Kollywood with “Chandramukhi”.
Rajnikanth himself is terrific in comedy scenes and he has Vadivelu for company. Throughout this supernatural family entertainer, Vadivelu keeps on seeing ghosts and other spirits that frightens him. The comedian for a change does not have separate comedy tracks but is a part of the story as Rajni playing a psychiatrist adds mirth to his discomfort!
Jyothika plays the role of Chandramukhi in “Chandramukhi” and she is paired opposite Prabhu. Prabhu and Rajni are close friends in the film, and when Prabhu is in a dilemma, Rajnikanth comes to live with the couple to help them out. This scene where four of them fly kites is very crucial. The music and background score is by Vidyasagar.
P.Vasu who also directed “Aapthamitra” is directing this film which is also a ghost story. Seen in the picture are Rajni and Vasu in a discussion about something related to the film during a break? The script is also written by Vasu and the film is produced by Ramkumar for Sivaji Productions.
So will “Chandramukhi” revive Rajnikanth’s career and give him a blockbuster? At a time when the young guns are ruling the Tamil box-office, “Yes” says his fans and the industry. We will know the answer on April 14 (Tamil New Year Day) when the film releases.
