Synopsis :
Hari who had earlier directed Saamy, Arul and Kovil is directing Ayya. Apart from direction he has written the story, screen play and dialogues. The movie is slated for Pongal release.
Sarath Kumar appears yet again in a double role. All Sarath's dual role films have worked magic in the box office. He plays the role of a father a do-gooder and an obedient son of a rich zamindar family. The father is 'ayyaa', as he is fondly addressed by the villagers and appears only in dhothi for the entire movie. Nayanthara is cast opposite the son and Lakshmi plays wife of father Sarath - Ayyaswamy. Lakshmi is doing a Tamil film after almost five years. Talking about his role in Ayyaa, Sarath says "in my previous dual roles, the father and son are always in loggerheads but in Ayyaa, both the father and son are great friends. The son obeys his father to the T and the father, though a big wig in the village always acknowledges the son. I have given a totally new look with my body language and delivery of dialogues".
Hari says, "Ayyaa is the story of two families trying to patch up. They have been separated due to some misunderstanding by the previous generation. It has all the ingredients of a commercial movie". The highlight of the movie is that there are fights but no stunt sequences and there is no villain in the film. Hari clarifies, "The situation in the film is the villain. When our characters casually talk they end up fighting or having a misunderstanding. Ayyaa will showcase to the world the advantages of a joint family". Hari is all praise for Sarathkumar. He says "Sarath as a father has given a tremendous performance. The role has fewer dialogues while much is said through his emoting. I'm sure he will bag the National Award for his performance." Hari finishes off in style quoting the baseline of Ayyaa "Man can only discipline somebody, its only god who has the liberty to punish someone".
Napoleon and Prakash Raj play important characters. Prakash Raj for the first time comes in a dhothi for the entire film. Vadivelu as a theatre owner provides the comedy fill up and is sure to keep the audience in splits.
Cameraman is Priyan and Art director is Kathir. Baradhwaj has composed music for five songs in six different moods.
