This seems to be a good season for remakes in Kollywood. 'Naan Avanillai' is the first among them. The film is the remake of a yesteryear classic
of same name which was directed by veteran K.Balachander starring Gemini Ganesan. Selva has taken a tough job of remaking it with Jeevan in
the lead. He managed to churn out an engrosser with right twists and turns and a good message to women. Selva needs to be applauded for his
work.
Annamalai (Jeevan) finds himself behind bars for cheating various women he has come across. Priya (Malavika), a model, is cheated by him in
the guise of a rich man from London. He marries her and escapes with a booty. Ammu Kutti (Jyothirmayi) is made to believe that he belongs to
Kerala Chief Minister's family. He also marries her and escapes with her valuable jewels. Radha (Keerthi Chawla), a daughter of a staunch
devotee of Krishna, is the next target. He enters as the incarnation of Lord Krishna and lures her into his magic circle. She too undergoes similar
treatment as the other two.
Monika (Namitha), a rich entrepreneur, is also one of his soft targets. When Anjali (Sneha), daughter of the Judge (Lakshmi), hears the case
against Annamalai, she develops an affinity towards him. And to know if Annamalai is punished by the court, watch the film on the
screen.
Performance:
Jeevan has performed well. The actor has carried from where he left in 'Thiruttu Payalae'. He seems to have developed a passion for playing a
playboy roles. All the heroines, Sneha, Namitha, Malavika, Jyothirmayi and Keerthi Chawla, have contributed well and they ooze right glamour.
Raj Kapoor, Livingston and Mayilsamy have done justice for their roles. Vijay Anthony's music is good. All the songs are catchy. Cinematography
is of first rate. Dialogues are interesting. Direction is excellent. The other aspects are fine.
