Director Raj Kapoor is back with yet another story for 'Kusthi'. Karthik and Prabhu created magic together on celluloid earlier through 'Agni Natchatram'. But the duo failed to hold the past glory this time. The director has tried to cast them in a slow paced movie and failed in his attempt.
Jeeva (Prabhu) runs away from his village to Chennai fearing a marriage with the daughter of a local chieftain (Radharavi), arranged by his father. He joins his old friend Velu (Vadivelu), who runs a hotel in the city. Meanwhile, he saves a youth (Mahandahi Shankar) from some gangsters. He is henchman of a local goon Singam (Karthik). Jeeva gets the acquaintance of Singam. Meanwhile Singam come across Abi (Flora), a research scholar and Jeeva meets Divya (Manya) and fall for their charm. Then enters another goon (Raj Kapoor), who leaves his stolen money with Singam.
Meanwhile Radharavi and his men come down to Chennai in search of Jeeva. Following a mishap, Jeeva admits Singam and a woman (Latha) in a hospital. Mistaking Jeeva to be their missing grandson, Vijayakumar (Latha's father) takes him to Ooty. Jeeva decides to go to Ooty. Singam comes with a plan to murder Vijayakumar. However, he manages to win his heart. The marriages are arranged for Jeeva and Singam with Abi and Divya. And here there is a twist again which forms the film's climax.
Performance:
Prabhu did his role impressively. His sequences with Vijayakumar are fine. Karthik also did his role well. It is too long that Karthik did such a role. Raj Kapoor did well as a baddie. Manya and Flora have added glamour to the movie. The others have no impact. Music by Imman is mediocre. Direction and script are of old times. The story fails to create its impact on the audience. The other technical aspects are okay.
