'Kovilpatti Veeralakshmi' is an out and out Simran film. In this movie Simran's character has a striking similarity with the character played by Vijayashanti in 'Ossey Ramulamma' (A telugu hit). The only difference is that here Simran revolts against the police brutality where as Vijayashanti revolts against the upper caste brutality over the dalits.
Coming to story, In a village named Kovilpatti dalits are harassed by police brutality. The inspector of police is the feudal lord. Inspector and his subordinates beat up the poor men and rape their women. When the inspector tries to sexually assault Veeralakshmi she lashes out at the cop and escapes. Now starts the cat and mouse chase. Veeralakshmi finally organizes a band of her own. She rises in revolt and takes on the Villains. She also falls in love with Das and gives birth to a boy. Police kills her brother Dharma who is one of her band member and her little son in an encounter. How Veeralakshmi takes her revenge over the brutal police forms the climax of the movie.
There is lot of violence and bloodshed in the movie. Simran has given a remarkable performance. Her expressions and body language are excellent. Her character as 'Veeralakshmi' is completely different to all the characters she has played till date. Deepa Venkat's voice perfectly suits her character. Sonu did justice to his role as 'Das'. All the other characters also did a good job. Rajkumar's stunt choreography is commendable.
