| 'Julie Ganapathy' is a love story blended with suspense and thrill. After a long gap from films, and busy with his small screen serials, Balu Mahendra returns to direction with a new film. He makes his re-entry into the Tamil Movies with 'Julie Ganapathy'. The lead roles are played by Jayram and Ramya Krishnan with the supporting cast of Sarita and Delhi Ganesh. Coming to the story, Balakumaran or Balu (Jayaram) is a writer. Out of sentimental attachments, he goes all the way to Ooty to write the script for the mega serial. On his way back, he gets into an accident. His obsessed and mentally deranged fan, Julie (Saritha), saves him. She takes him to her residence and nourishes him back to health.
The accident leaves his hands and leg fractured. Julie almost imprisons him. The climax of teleserial and the love that she has for Balu makes her lose her sanity. How Balu escapes is the rest of the story. The excitement created around the climax of the megaserial 'Mangaa' sits right on the film's story. The last few minutes of the film are extremely thrilling. Julie's atrocities on Balu when she closes down all the routes of escape, are scary.

Ramya Krishnan plays an orthodox wife in this film. Saritha has recreated her talented self in her performance as Julie. She has done a fantastic job when she suddenly raises her voice to threaten Jayaram and when she begins to shower love and affection on him with a vengeance. Excellent is Jayaram as Balu, he has given an outstanding performance. Ilayaraaja's background score is good. Snail-paced story makes it a bit boring but it is definetly out of routine story.
