Young director Simbudevan has comeout with a humorous story for 'Imsai Arasan 23
Pulikesi'. The storyline is quite simple. The director's selection in choosing Vadivelu in a
prince's role is the right choice. The movie holds good attraction.
A selfish Rajguru (Nassar) is keen on usurping the Veera Chozhapura Palayam kingdom.
So he kills 22 potential princes and also the queen's brother. He feels happy when an
astrologer predicts that the next child of the queen would be a real idiot and can be
moulded according to his wish. Unfortunately, a twin is born and Rajguru gives one child to
the astrologer asking him to kill.
Meanwhile, the King and the Queen name the child as 23 am Pulikesi. The child grows as
an idiot, fun-loving youth and a womanizer. The other child named Ugitaputhan grows up
and excels in education and warfare. Ugiraputhan comes to know of his past, and plans to
save his kingdom. He manages to replace Pulikesi and starts to set the house. Finally he
and his commander-in-chief (Sriman) will teach a lesson to Rajguru.
Performance:
Vadivelu played a dual role for the first time in a different attire. He did his best to drag the
audience attention. The sequences wherein he and his soldiers prepare for the war is
shown well. Nassar has also performed well. Sriman and Manorama fit their role well. The
others did upto the content. Music by Sabesh - Murali is interesting. Art-direction by
Krishnamurthy is noteworthy. Simbudevan's direction and script is good.
