Director A.R.Raja Raja has come out with a new subject for 'Ilavattam'. The story revolves
around an adolescent boy who faces many changes when he falls in love with a girl of his age.
He partly succeeds in his trial.
Srinivas (Navdeep) is a college student who belongs to a middle class family. He receives
university medal for topping in academics. In a speech, he reveals his past.
Srinivas meets Lakshmi (Sheela), daughter of a rich landlord (Vijayakumar), in his school days.
After initial misunderstandings, both fall in love. Then enters Sethupathi (Prithviraj), Lakshmi's
btother-in-law. Certain sequences lands Srinivas in prison. With his strong determination, he
pursues his studies from prison and passes out in flying colours. How the things are set right and
Srinivas and Lakshmi get united, forms the rest of the story.
Performance:
Navadeep has got a strong role. He did well as a romantic guy. Sheela, being a debutant, did her
role well. Prithvi is alright. Suhasini played her role impressively. Vijayakumar did well as Sheela's
father. The others did upto the content. The music given by Mani Sharma is the main asset of the
film. Cinematography is fine. Script and direction are adequate. The other aspects are
okay.
