Director S.Ezhil is well known for his films with good love stories. He is back with yet another flick
'Deepavali'. It is a film for all classes and all ages and has a storyline which is truly different from the rest.
The director deserves a praise for his effort to present a good family entertainer like this.
Billu (Jayam Ravi) is the son of Mudaliar (Vijay Kumar) who is respected by people of his locality. Billu
comes across Susi (Bhavana) at the railway station. She comes from Bangalore to stay at Seth's (VMC
Haneefa) place. Earlier Seth had worked for Susi's father Chidambaram (Lal), a dreaded thug and Susi just
visits him. She gets impressed with the bonding that the Royapuram residents share. Love blooms between
Susi and Billu. Susi acts peculiar when a long lost friend Revathi (Minal) meets her at a restaurant. Susi
denies knowing her.
Later she reveals Billu that she has a memory loss problem and she is unable to remember anything since a
terrible incident that happened three years ago. Billu takes her to the doctor (Raghuvaran) and learns that
this condition can be cured, but when she does get cured, she will not be in a position to remember the
current events. Susi gets disheartened and makes Billu promise her that he would never leave her even if she
were to forget him.
In a turn of events, Chidambaram, Susi's father, thrashes Billu after making him arrive at a place far from his
locality, at the outskirts. The helpless Susi travels along with her father, escorted by his men, to Bangalore.
When Billu meets Susi at her residence, he gets nothing less than shocked as she has been cured and she
fails to recognize him. But Billu tries to keep his promise by not leaving Susi. And how he tries relentlessly
to convince her Susi forms the rest of the story.
Performance:
Jayam Ravi has performed well. He is great to watch throughout the film. Bhavana is brilliant. Vijay Kumar
suits the role of Ravi's father. Lal, as a baddie, is good. Raghuvaran makes an interesting guest appearance.
Minal is fine as Bhavana's friend. The others are okay. Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is pleasant. Story and
direction are of first rate. Cinematography by Vijay Milton and editing by Sasi Kumar are good. Dialogues
are interesting. All the production values are high.
