Director Vikraman is well known for his sentiment packed family entertainers. He came with a commercial pot-boiler with 'Chennai Kadhal'. The
selection of the team is good. The film is packed with all the necessary ingredients to attract the youth and Bharat's fans. The director succeeds in
getting a qualitative work from his artists.
Gautham (Bharath) is a happy-go-lucky-youngster in Chennai. He does not take life seriously. Gautham meets Narmada (Genelia) in her hostel.
The two become friends. Once they meet in a train. It gets halted in a remote village due to some problem. The two live together. Gautham spends
most of the time with his friends who run a company which supplies vehicles for film shoots. Once he gets a chance to play the role of a cop in a
film. The events make Narmada believe that he is infact a cop and loves him. Later she knows that he is not a cop. Then enters Narmada's father,
Sakthivel (Radha Ravi), a dreaded thug in Chennai. Narmada cuts off ties with him when she comes to know that he is a goon.
Now Sakthivel wants Narmada to get married to a gangster's brother. However Gautham and Narmada elope to Mumbai. Sakthivel's men follow
them. This brings about trouble to the lovers again. And how Gautham succeeds in fighting against all odds and gets married to Narmada, is to be
seen on the screens.
Performance:
Bharath did his best as a hero. His looks matured in his action sequences. Genelia, who was appreciated for her performance in 'Boys', did yet
another impressive role in 'Chennai Kadhal'. She looks beautiful in all the sequences. The chemistry between Genelia and Bharath is good.
Radha Ravi did well as a baddie. He is perfect in all the sequences. Music composed by Joshua Sridhar is pleasant. Choreography is good.
Even though the story is routine one, the director has presented it in a different way. Cinematography is impressive. The other technical aspects
are alright.
