'Billa 2007', the much awaited movie of the year after Rajinikanth's 'Sivaji', has finally arrived. The film is directed by VishnU Vardhan. The director has shown Ajith in a different way which attracts all the audience. The selection of cast and crew is perfect. Vishnu surely deserves a praise from one and all.
David Billa (Ajith) heads a narcotic gang that smuggles and ships drugs keeping Malaysia as their forwarding point. His gang has Narang (Santhanam) and CJ (Namitha). DSP Jai Prakash (Prabhu) tracks down Billa. But to his disappointment the don gets severely wounded, resulting in his death. The DSP then remembers a person called Velu (Ajith again) and then tracks him down. The DSP requests Velu to pretend to be Billa so that he can take down the rest of Billa's gang. But in an unexpected turn of events the police officer dies. How Velu goes on and proves that he is not Billa forms the rest of the story. On the other hand there is Sasha (Nayantara), who wants to kill Billa to avenge her brother's death. Also there is Jagadish (Rahman), the super boss of the gang, to add shades to the crime thriller.
Performance:
Ajith excels in his performance both as Billa and as Velu. The actor has not tried to recreate the magical charm of Rajinikanth but has played to his strengths. His looks and action sequences are impressive. Nayantara has played a role which has dual shades. She looks sexy throughout the film. Her chemistry with Ajith is catchy. Namitha on the other hand, has done justice to her role. Prabhu is brilliant as DSP Jai. Rahman is alright as the boss of the gang. The others have played upto the content. Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is one of the major asset of the film. Cinematography by Nirav Shah is excellent. He has captured the beauty of Malaysia besides capturing the action sequences well. Sreekar Prasad's editing is effective. The film has high production values.
