'Autograph' is a nostalgic trip of tales swinging to the past and back. The film is produced, scripted and directed by Cheran. This straightforward story of four girls and a man could kindle past memories in many a middle-aged. It is a nostalgic trip for Cheran — one in which you accompany him through his adolescence, youth and its following stage. The film is free from contrived comedy and unrealistic villainy.

Story 'Autograph' opens with Senthil (Cheran) addressing the audience directly. He is on his way to his village, where he did his schooling, to invite the people he knew there but lost touch with, for his wedding. The scene is cut at that point to take you to his boyhood days, his first love, Kamala, and his separation from her. The rest, that include his college days in Kerala, his job in Chennai and his marriage, comes later. As Senthil takes a trip to these places, he goes down memory lane, reliving the incidents, humorous and bitter-sweet. There's Kamala (Mallika) the love of his schooldays, till parting becomes inevitable. There's Lathika (Gopika), the Malayali college mate he falls for, after his father, a postmaster, gets transferred to a township in Kerala. Senthil now meets them after more than a decade and their present situation sends him into a state of depression. And when on his wedding eve his past converges on him, he is a truly disturbed man. But then, heeding the wise words of his colleague and best friend Divya (Sneha), who'd taught him the true value of friendship, Senthil decides to let go of his past and get on with his life.
Music Music by Bharadwaj is impressive.
Performance There's a sincerity and an involvement in Cheran as an actor and a director. He's managed to bring to his role credibility and sensitivity. Sneha's is the best of the cameos and she sails through it with grace. Her beautiful eyes convey emotions with ease. Kamala, who plays the village girl Mallika, lives the role of a typical rustic schoolgirl in dress and demeanour that you forget that she's just acting out a role. So natural is the performance by this new face! Lathika (Gopika) is the college student in Alapuzha, whom Senthil next flips for. Verdict Average.
