| 'Anbe Sivam' is Kamal Haasan's interesting story - strongly inspired by the Steve Martin starrer 'Planes, trains and automobiles'. Arthur Wilson's camera is great. Slick editing, and authentic sets enhance the effect. the film is directed by Sunder C and produced by Lakshmi Movie Makers. Nalla sivam (Kamal Hasan) a former PWG sympathiser and a theatre activist and also a former lover of Nalla his boss' daughter. He elopes with Bala (Bala) for a secret marriage but unfortunately meets with an accident and he is completely disfigured due to this accident. Bala thiks that Nalla is dead.
Coming to Madhavan, he is an NRI film maker, who comes to India to get married to Bala. Anbarasu (Madhavan) misses his flight and boards a train. Nalla and Anbarasu meet unexpectedly in their journey. As they travel together Anbarasu finds himself drawn to Nalla. In the company of Sivam however he soon finds himself evolving from a fussy self-centered man, to a more mature and a more humane human being who comes face to face with the harsh realities of life. The story has humour and sentiment and has a touching story, it's a film to be watched. In this film Kamal appears scar-faced and limps and with thick glasses. He has given an excellent performance. Madhavan's performance is great and proves that he can do any kind of role. Kiran gave good performance too.
'Yaar yaar Shivam' is one of the best songs of the movie. Using the song in bits throughout the film in the background adds strength to the film. Vidhyasagar has given good background score. Nasser as Bala's father and Santhana Bharathi as his right hand provide support. Uma Riyaz Khan as Kamal's comrade, doing street-plays with him, hiding her love for him also has given good performance. The film has the story of a nurse, though she appears only for a few minutes, her character has been sketched very well. K Prabhakar's sets look real in recreating natural calamities like Orissa floods and a tragic rail accident. |
