'Allaudin' by Venkateswaralayam's is funny and entertaining. It also has the right amount of sentiment and action imbedded in it. It is a fast paced film with a good storyline. Prabhu Deva is back with Allaudin after a long time and he did a pretty good job.
Coming to story, Allikuppam is a slum area where Allaudin (Prabhu Deva), who had been deserted as a baby, is brought up with love and care. He loves the people of Allikuppam, and he is always there for them to help them when the need arises. Once tragedy strikes one household, Allaudin realizes he must act quickly and avert any further tribulation for the people around him. He finds out their every want and sets about satisfying each of them. Allaudin's main enemy is the powerful Gangadhar (Raghuvaran). Allaudin gets his chance to be one-up on his tormentor when he finds some incriminating evidence -a bloody knife and a sliced finger- linking him to a murder. The evidence becomes his magic lamp, which does his every bidding. The story inspired by the folk tale of Allaudin and the Wonderful Lamp, slants towards Robin Hood in the second half.
The screenplay, dialogue and direction, by Ravi Chakravarthy have no frills that hamper the narration. This strand of naturalness that runs throughout the film makes "Allaudin" enjoyable. The comic exchanges, which are part of the main story, is rib tickling. Ashima, who made a special appearance in "Ramana" did a commendable job. Mani Sharma's music is good. To sum up 'Allaudin' is a successful comeback for Prabhu Deva.
